I have always had an interest in people and studied psychology at university. But on graduating I wasn’t sure that I wanted to be a psychologist. I had always been drawn to natural therapies and to a holistic approach to wellbeing and after working in the wine trade for three years I decided to train as a reflexologist. I trained in Covent Garden, London for one year while working in Berkshire.
I really loved the buzz of living in the south-east and working in London, but I missed Devon and Dartmoor in particular so I came home, bringing my Reading born partner, a primary school teacher with me. We got married and then took time out to be with my two young children. As they got bigger and I had more time on my hands, I began working as a reflexologist and beauty therapist in a salon on Dartmoor. At the same time, I started training in skincare and make-up and I set up my own business, Tara’s Treatments, in 2014. It has been a whirlwind ever since.
I come from an entrepreneurial family so the idea of developing my business further seemed like a logical step. This led me back to my first love, skincare, and in the autumn of 2016 the idea for what has become The Dartmoor Skincare Company was born. The first products I created were things I could use in my facials; a cleanser, toner and moisturiser.
The products were developed with the help of extensive testing and feedback from clients, family and friends, always with an emphasis on quality, gentle products that are kind to your body and suitable for sensitive skin. Three generations of my family have tried and loved my products.
